Firefighting Vets Fire season is
soon approaching and the California Department of
Forestry and Fire Protection, or CalFire, is short hundreds of
seasonal firefighters after losing more than $30 million in budget cuts last year.
Plus, military veterans returning home to Northern California are
having a hard time finding jobs. But the California Conservation Corps has come up with
a solution that creates volunteer firefighters by training military
veterans in fire and forestry. The training and volunteer
work are the first steps towards a potential career as a
journey-level firefighter.

CAVE Women is an eclectic group of five
local musicians who are either attending or have graduated from
Sacramento State University. Their often jazzy, sometimes
gypsy, sound draws from the group's collective background in
classical, a capella, Brazilian, and African music. CAVE
Women will perform in our studio ahead of
their shows on May 10th at Bows and Arrows
and May 12th at Nicolas Wray Studios.
