New Heart Surgery The federal Food and Drug Administration has recently approved a new kind of heart surgery where the chest doesn't need to be opened - instead, a team of doctors threads a catheter up the femoral artery (at your hip) and into your heart, then they push an artificial valve up that same path and use a balloon to open up the failing valve and replace it with another.
