So far this year California has escaped a massive wildfire like the one in Colorado.

But Calfire is closely watching that, and gearing up for what could be a damaging season here in California.

CalFire's Daniel Berlant says they've seen 1,000 more fires this year than last….mainly because of a dry winter.

And the fire season has only just begun.

BERLANT: "The increase in fire activity that we've seen to date really has us concerned, as we move into the hotter months, and even into the peak of fire season it means that there is a lot of potential for increased fire activity statewide."

More than 2,500 wildfires have burned around 15,000 acres statewide this year.

Berlant says people cause more than 90-percent of wildfires by accident or through negligence.
