The Sacramento Valley is bracing for triple-digit temperatures which will start hitting this weekend.
"It's been a while since we had temperatures this warm and we're going to be pushing pretty close to 100 by Sunday of this weekend."
That's Mike Smith with the National Weather Service office in Sacramento. He says it'll be even hotter next week with temperatures approaching 105-degrees by Tuesday.
Smith says sweltering heat from the Midwest is inching our way.
"The same ridge of high pressure that's been over the central part of the country is starting to push back towards the west. And that means it's going to be a little bit more over us. So we'll start to get our share of the hotter weather."
Air quality in the Sacramento area is forecast to be "unhealthy for sensitive groups" over the weekend because of the higher temperatures.
Local officials are urging people to cut back on driving to help reduce smog.
