Primary Care Physician Shortage California is facing a growing shortage of doctors.  The Supreme Court's validation of the Affordable Care Act means 3 million more Californians will be needing primary care physicians by 2014.  Plus, the state has one of the lowest reimbursement rates in the country for Med-Cal and an unusually high number doctors nearing retirement age.  David Westphal is the editor-in-chief of the Center for Health Reporting and has recently written an article outlining the major problems California will need to fix if it is going to overcome a growing doctor shortage.

Tahoe Crayfish Harvest When you think about lobster, you probably don't think of Lake Tahoe. But the Nevada Department of Wildlife has just issued its first permit ever to harvest crayfish -or little lobsters as some people know them- from Lake Tahoe.  The decision is based on research showing the non-native crayfish contribute to the lake's declining clarity.  The new market for crayfish is also expected to add millions of dollars to Tahoe's down economy.  Professor Sudeep Chandra from the University of Nevada, Reno was instrumental in Nevada's decision to allow commercial crayfish harvesting in Lake Tahoe, and he joins us to explain his research.  We'll also speak with one of the owners of Tahoe Lobster Company, who got the first permit to harvest crayfish.
