An aide and close friend of Sacramento Mayor, Kevin Johnson has resigned and is now the subject of an audit by the City's Finance Department.
Lisa Serna-Mayorga was caught using a city credit card for personal expenditures.
At a press event Monday, the Mayor repeatedly pointed out she paid the money back when the purchases were discovered. But he says he is disappointed with her lapse of judgment., "At some point, there became some interesting charges that did not add up. That's when something was brought to my attention. And then, at the time, my Chief of Staff, Kunal (Merchant) set down, and then went through and they reconciled, and there were some discrepancies or some things that we didn't feel that should be charged."
She has been employed by the City since Johnson was elected Mayor.
City Manager, John Shirey directed the Finance Department to audit all of Serna-Mayorga's credit card usage.
The City Auditor, Jose Oseguera is not involved with that review. But in September, his office will start an audit of all of the City's credit cards, "My predecessor had actually identified questionable credit card transactions within the utility department prior to me taking the job of City Auditor. And, recognizing some of the questionable transactions that were allowed then, I thought that it would be prudent to look at City credit card usage elsewhere."
He says he has no idea how many credit cards the City has assigned to employees.
