Work on the full interchange of on-ramps and off-ramps at Riego Road and Highway 99 in Sutter County is scheduled to start in the spring. But, there's a problem. When developers pulled out of a nearby project, Sutter County lost $1.5 million in funding for the interchange.
Traffic from Yuba and Sutter counties joins traffic from Roseville at the existing Riego intersection . Sutter County Supervisor Larry Montna says that creates a dangerous situation and makes the project a necessity, "So, you got one heck of a bottleneck and we've had people that have been seriously hurt and killed at Riego. I would think it has to be built there."
