Placer County is woefully short of candidates running for public office. With about two weeks remaining to file to run for elected positions, 55 percent of the positions have no one running to fill them.
To drum up interest, Placer County has sent a flier with George Washington's image to political party central committees, news outlets, and libraries asking people to run.
Ryan Ronco is the Assistant Registrar of Voters. He says the process is pretty simple, "Declare that you're either going to raise or spend money to run for office or not, declare what your financial interests might be in that geographic area and maybe filing a candidate statement of qualifications that would be published in the sample ballot booklet."
