The Sacramento City Council has approved a second audit of credit card use by the Mayor, Council and their staff…even though there is already an audit underway by the City Auditor's office.
At Thursday night's meeting, Councilman Steve Cohn said he was willing to spend the extra $12,000 for an outside audit, "It's not just mayor and council, but also the staff within those offices. So, yeah it is a little more expensive than would be if we were done internally. But, I think the public will have more confidence that the information when it comes out is in fact independent and couldn't be doctored, not that it would be, but that perception needs to be addressed."
A one-year audit by the City Auditor's office was approved earlier this year, but the second audit was requested after it came to the attention of the Mayor's office that staff member Lisa Serna Mayorga had used her card for personal expenditures.
The second audit will go back three years.
