Realty Wrap Up: Starter Homes The market for
high-cost homes has crashed and the market for moderately and
low-priced homes (under $250,000) is rebounding. So why are
prospective first-time home buyers having such a hard time finding
a house? Normally, families would be moving into larger
homes and freeing up these "starter homes." But many of those
families are underwater or lack equity to afford a move-up.
Plus, cash investors have been swooping up nearly one-third of all
homes sold. To discuss the starter home market is Svenja
Gudell, Senior Economist for the real estate website Zillow, and Chris
Little, president-elect of the Sacramento Association of Realtors.
Digital Vaudeville Art Dan
Herrera is a photographic graphic artist with studio locations
in Sacramento and New York City. This young artist wields an
extensive vocabulary of photographic process that merges 19th
century photography with contemporary digital imaging. His
award-winning work is featured on the cover of No
Alternatives: Contemporary Handcrafted Photographs, and
most recently Herrera was tapped for the handcrafted invitational
in the current volume of Diffusion Magazine: Unconventional Photography.
In his latest collection, Vaudeville, Herrera creates beautiful
images that engage us in mysterious narratives, at once futuristic
and nostalgic. The series combines Herrera's childhood love
of building dioramas, with his fascination of contemporary
science-fiction, and 19th century photographic
techniques. You can follow Dan at

Olympians Haley and Alyssa Anderson Haley swam a photo finish Women's Open Water
swim in London to win an Olympic silver medal; her sister Alyssa brought home gold for the women's 4x200
freestyle relay. They grew up swimming at the Sierra Marlins at Folsom Aquatic
Center where their younger sister Jordan
now trains. Haley will be in our studios to share with
us the story of her silver medal accomplishment. Haley's
race is a 10k and she finished .4 of a second behind the Gold
medalist from Hungary. Open water (marathon) swimming was
added to the Olympic Games in 2008.
The Barnyard Theatre This is a small
theater company (mostly 20-somethings from Davis) who stage a
show (sometimes two) each summer in an actual working barn in a
rural part of Yolo County. Smell the animals. Watch the
sun go down. See an interesting play (they usually do plays
that are "ambitious.) The actors will read in our studios a
scene from the play Psyche.
