To hear heated debate from lawmakers is expected, but sometimes debate can become surprisingly amusing.
Take, for example, Democratic Senator Joe Simitian's bill that would increase fines for those who text while driving. Republican Doug La Malfa's response:
La Malfa: "Say it ain't so, Joe."
To which Simitian quipped:
Simitian: "Give me a hug, Doug, I ask for an aye vote."
That bill passed the Senate and now heads to the Governor's desk.
The Assembly debated a bill that prohibits therapists from engaging in sexual orientation change efforts with patients under 18.
Openly-gay Democratic Assembly member Tom Ammiano drew laughter with his remark.
Ammiano: "If there in fact was a cure, Tom Ammiano raging heterosexual, think about it, I urge an aye vote."
That bill passed the Assembly but still faces one more vote in the Senate before it could head to the Governor's desk.
