Its Board of Governors hired former Los Rios Community College District Chancellor Brice Harris to lead the largest system of higher education in the country.
Harris retired last month from Los Rios after serving nearly 16 years as chancellor.
He says one of his challenges will be dealing with the state's budget problems which have forced the system to suppress enrollment.
HARRIS: "It is a tremendous opportunity and a great time in California. Yes we have our challenges but believe me I am excited about the opportunity and looking forward to everyday services as chancellor."
Harris replaces retiring Chancellor Jack Scott.
He begins his new role on November 6th with an annual salary of $198,500.
