A recent survey of the biggest Sacramento-area businesses finds a majority of them are planning to hire people in the last three months of the year.

Every quarter, the employment agency Pacific Staffing surveys the 100 largest Sacramento-region employers about their hiring plans for the coming months.

Researcher Rick Reed says 62 percent of the companies surveyed plan to hire in the last quarter of this year, "Companies are motivated to hire for a number of reasons: replacement of existing work force, growth of the work force or seasonal needs. And, of course, when we ask them what their motivation is, they may choose all three. Right now, we're looking at a slightly lower growth rate from last quarter.  We're looking at a increase in the number of people hiring only for replacements."

According to the Pacific Staffing survey, about forty percent of the available jobs will be new postitions.  Another 43 percent will fill existing vacancies.  Seasonal positions, like holiday retail jobs make up 13 percent of the openings.
