The Lincoln Bypass is scheduled to open sometime late Sunday night.
Celia McAdam is with the Placer County Transportation Planning Agency. She says the bypass will significantly ease congestion caused by people driving through Lincoln to and from Roseville, "It is a four-lane freeway that goes from Industrial/Lincoln Boulevard to Nelson Lane and then it is two lanes -one lane in each direction- from Nelson lane up to Sheridan."
As many as 40,000 vehicles use Highway 65 through Lincoln every day.
There is a second phase under construction that adds another two lanes of roadway on a 4.5 (four-and-a-half-mile) mile stretch. That phase is scheduled to be completed in 2014.
There is a third phase adding lanes all the way to Sheridan, but that phase has not yet been funded.
The bypass was first considered more than 40 years ago.
