Sacramento's District 4 Race The city council
race for Sacramento's newly redrawn District 4, which includes Land
Park, Downtown, and South Natomas, is coming down to the
wire. Steve Hansen beat opponent Joseph
Yee by 75 votes out of more than 10,000 in a tight June primary
election. Hansen has shown that he has strong support in the
younger Midtown "Grid" while Yee is the favored candidate among
older Land Park residents. Both candidates will have to
stretch outside their base to reach unlikely supporters if they
want to win. We'll explore how Yee and Hansen are planning to
unite the new district and their vision is for the future of
Sacramento.
Proposition 36 Proposition 36 alter California's
three-strikes law to exclude non-violent felonies. Proponents
say California's three-strikes law is exasperating the state's
prison overcrowding and prop 36 will ease prison populations by
reducing terms for criminals who haven't committed violent
crimes. Opponents of Prop 36 say the list of "non-violent"
felonies leaves out a lot of serious crimes that could be
considered violent. For instance, hiring someone to kill
another person.
