Eleven female students from UOP make up Team Venus.
The team is using its combined knowledge of computer engineering and science, physics, and applied math to design, assemble, and use a supercomputer.
Six members of Team Venus are competing in Salt Lake City's SC12, the International Conference for High Performance Computer Networking.
Team advisor Dr. Louise Stark says many assumed Pacific was an all girl's school.
STARK: "The first thing that came to their minds is that we must be an all girls school and that would be the only way you could actually field a team of all females, people just can't believe that it could be done."
Seven other student teams come from colleges such as Harvard, Boston University, and MIT, but only 3 women among 39 men.
