What does it take to feed 1,000 people?  At Sacramento's Loaves and Fishes Tuesday, volunteers will be serving up 300 turkeys, 400 pies and 200 cans of yams.  Joan Burke is with the social service organization that feeds 600-800 people daily.  She says turnout at the early Thanksgiving meal is always a bit higher:

Burke:"We try very hard to make it festive and it's a real community effort.  We have many, many community volunteers who are going to come down and help prepare the meal and then serve it."

Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services is assisting people with a holiday feast at home.  The organization collected more than 6300 donated turkeys this week.  Kelley Siefkin is with the Food Bank:

Siefkin: "We will have zero turkeys left over."

The turkeys and boxes of holiday food were handed out yesterday.   In addition, Sacramento's winter sanctuary program started this week.  It provides men and women shelter at faith-based centers.
