California School Safety "Something must
be done." This is the sentiment echoing across the country and
powerfully reiterated in a recent article by Liza Long entitled "I am Adam Lanza's Mother." The recent school shooting at Sandy Hook
Elementary has many wondering about the changes that may
take place in the tragedy's aftermath, one of the primary thoughts
being school safety in California. California Senate
President Pro-tem Darrell Steinberg joins us today for a
discussion about state legislation from the Capitol.
Pet Tales: Hospice Care We'll revist advice
on what may be one of your toughest choices: whether your ailing
pet should live or die. How much do you spend to keep a sick pet
alive and what if there's no guarantee the money you spend will do
any good? What if you don't have the money? Should you
go into debt to keep your pet alive? These are all questions many
pet owner may someday face, so we'd like to begin the first
installment of our new signature segment Pet Tales with a
discussion on hospice care for pets. Gina Spadafori is a pet expert who has
co-authored several pet books with Dr. Marty Becker and she was one of the first
guests on Insight in 2004. For additional advice, visit peacefulpassing.org.
"A Sidekick Christmas" Andrew
Ward tells the story of six infamous sidekicks of the Old West
(think Tonto, Poncho) who gather each Christmas to celebrate not
just the holiday but their friendship. The 48 minute spoken
word narrative is recorded by famed character actor and Texan, Barry Corbin
(Lonesome Dove, No Country for Old Men). Ward, a
former All Things Considered contributer
joins us in the studio to talk about the piece and the inspiration
behind it. You can listen to the full Sidekick
Christmas here (a free PRX account registration is
required to listen to the full program).
