Stockton may have serious problems, like bankruptcy and crime. But more than a dozen candidates are hoping to be appointed to an empty council seat to effect change.
Tonight members of the public can meet the 13 candidates who hope to fill the District 5 council seat left vacant when Susan Eggman was elected to the assembly.
The League of Women Voters is sponsoring the forum at University of the Pacific.
Susan Loyko of the League says the forum will allow citizens and the city council to hear from the hopefuls.
LOYKO: "That's the opportunity to be more involved in this process and to get people involved in their government, this is a win-win situation all the way around it."
City councilman Paul Canepa expects council members getting recommendations from many people.
CANEPA: "It's not the best of all worlds for picking a councilperson but it makes it interesting as far as people giving their opinions and who should be there and who shouldn't be there."
The city council with a new mayor and two new council members will make the final decision on who will fill the vacant council seat.
