There were nearly 12 million transactions in 2012 -up six percent from the year before.  Requests for new identification cards and driver records were among the transactions gaining in popularity.

Jessica Gonzalez with DMV says more than three-quarters of a million people also used the DMV's online system…at DMV branches, "Instead of waiting in line, you can go over to the terminal, renew your registration on your own, and that was up nearly 65 percent from last year."

Gonzalez says there were more online transactions in every category and that overall usage has increased every year since the DMV started offering online service.
