Chuck NeSmith was one of about 100 people attending noon mass Monday at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in downtown Sacramento, "Well, I'm very saddened by it. I thought he was a great Pope and a good guy all around and so it's a sad day, yeah."

Mass started with a mention of the Pope.  Father Michael O'Reilly called the decision to resign a brave one, "My first reaction was it was a beautiful note from our Pope as to recognizing his own needs and his health and how we should all not work so hard and to appreciate our lives spent with God"

Pope Benedict is the first pope in 600 years to resign his position.  He cited poor health for his resignation.
