It's called Measure I. A yes vote would allow the city to supplement its aging groundwater system with Sacramento River water. Alan Pryor is co-chair of the Yes on Measure I campaign:
"Davis has been fighting with groundwater problems for a number of years. The best solution agreed upon by most of the experts has been that we need to tap into the surface water through the Sacramento River."
That would mean building a water treatment facility and a pipeline…and increasing customer rates to pay for it. Opponents like Michael Harrington with the No on Measure I campaign say it's like writing a blank check.
"The problem with the project is that there's no fixed cost on the upper end so cost overruns would be charged against the Davis ratepayers."
It's too late to mail-in ballots to meet tomorrow's 8 PM deadline. But voters can still drop ballots off at the Yolo County Elections Office in Woodland before 8 PM Tuesday and at the Stephens Branch Library in Davis.
