"Thank you. It was a pleasure meeting you too," said Marilyn Yong. She was one of dozens of fans who had lined up for Mitch Richmond's autograph and just had a picture taken with him. 

Richmond is part of a group trying to purchase a minority share of the team.

Yong's a fan, "We've always like him and that was really nice of him to pitch in a million bucks."  She paused with a catch in her throat, "I get emotional, but that's really nice of him."

Richmond was an all-star on a lot of losing teams in the early 90's.  He says Mayor Kevin Johnson recruited him to come back and to give back to the community, "This city, this team, the fans really stood behind me.  From day one, they came out.  We sold out every night."

Appearing with him was David Dworkin -a member of Lester Harrison's family.  Harrison founded the Rochester Royals in 1945, "I believe there were 17 original NBA teams and now there's only a handful that trace their way back. To have one here is pretty important. 

Dworkin says the team's history will fade away if the Sacramento Kings become the Seattle Sonics. 

He has also pledged a million dollars toward the effort to purchase a minority share of the team.  

Dworkin still lives in Rochester.  Richmond lives in Los Angeles.  Last year, he started an organization that targets the problems of obesity, bullying, depression and suicide among teenagers.  He says if he becomes a minority owner, he will expand the program to Sacramento.
