The U-S Forest Service has bought land that it says completes one of the best mountain biking trails in the nation.

"Hole in the Ground" mountain bike trail runs just north of I-80 at Donner Summit. Part of it had been privately owned. After 5 years of negotiating, the Forest Service bought 1,370 acres for 1.3 million dollars. Carl Somers of the Trust for Public Land worked on the deal to complete the alignment of the trail. 

SOMERS: "It is not just part of that alignment, it is the best part of that alignment and there are a lot of people that are very excited about that."

Now, Hole in the Ground includes White Rock Lake, which is next to the Pacific Crest Trail and flanked by some of the highest mountains in the northern Sierra. Somers says trail signage will probably start next year. 

SOMERS: "I cant speak right now to exactly how long it is going to take to have that completed, but I know there is an army of volunteers in Truckee, California right now that are ready and willing to go."
