People in Lodi can sell their unwanted guns to Lodi Police on Saturday.

Sellers can get as much as $200 for a gun.

Lodi Police are holding a gun buyback at City Hall starting at 9am Saturday morning.

They are paying $25 for nonworking guns, $100 for handguns and rifles, and up to $200 for assault rifles.

The buyback makes the guns less available to criminals who steal them in burglaries.

Officer Jim Pendergast says often those are the guns used in crimes.

PENDERGAST: "Gang violence is a problem in Lodi and basically every other city. This is one of the ways we try to help curb that problem here in Lodi."

A maximum of $500 per person will be paid out, and only people who live in Lodi are eligible.

Lodi Police have $20,000 for the buyback program, and they will buy guns until the money is gone.
