Speaker Perez Speaker John Perez is trying to get a message out to voters that Democrats in the California State Assembly - even with a new supermajority - will use fiscal restraint when figuring out to use additional monies that the state's coffers haven't seen in years. We'll talk with him about his plans for the state's budget while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

Cuts to Firefighting Aircraft As California grapples with an early fire season, the state may feel the pain of automatic spending cuts soon. The federal sequester means furloughs for more than 2,000 technicians in the California National Guard who  work on and supply planes and helicopters to fight wildfires. Michael Marois is a reporter for Bloomberg News and has recently published an article on the issue and joins us to explain what's happening.

Kushman By the Bottle In this month's Kushman by the Bottle, we'll talk an inside look at how wine really gets to stores and markets. Our resident wine expert and occassional guest host Rick Kushman talks about the crazy hoops, distribution channels and alcohol control laws one has to navigate to run a successful winery - and they change state by state. He has chronicled it all in a new book released May 21st, "The Barefoot Spirit," which chronicles the against-the-odds triumph of Michael Houlihan and Bonnie Harvey, owners of Barefoot Cellars.
