Unanimous Court California's Supreme Court has been
increasingly handing down unanimous decisions on major social
issues in the past couple years - redistricting, rest and meal
periods for food service workers, marijuana and gay marriage. We're
speaking with McGeorge School of Law Professor John Sims about the make-up of the court and
which justice was appointed by which governor to try in an effort
to understand why this court is working so well together.
Breast Cancer Endowment Mother's Day is this
Sunday and it's a time of year that can be difficult for people who
have lost their moms. We'll talk with two women, Christy Patton and
Kelli Ridenour, who both lost their moms to breast cancer. They're
both also involved in a nonprofit organization whose mission it is
to fund an endowed chair at UC Davis' new Comprehensive Cancer
Center. The
Placer Breast Cancer Endowment has raised $825,000 since 2005
and the kickoff to the Endowment's fundraising season is the
upcoming Signe King Memorial Dinner & Wine Tasting event on
Thursday, May 16th at La Provence in Roseville.
Amy Reed & Ross Hammond When the Carolina
Chocolate Drops do their sound check at the Sierra 2 Center in
Sacramento Friday night two Sacramento musicians will be standing
by waiting to take the stage as the opening act. Amy Reed and Ross
Hammond are singers/songwriters/composers and guitarists she's also
teacher and he's a music festival producer - and they'll perform
live in our studio.
Sound Advice: In the Flow It's the only
festival in Sacramento that brings jazz, rock, blues, poetry,
spoken word and electronic music together for six days. This year's
sixth annual In the Flow Festival features musicians like
Sacramento's"CAVE Women and Seattle's Bad Luck, among many more.
This year's festival runs through Monday and festival director Ross
Hammond joins us for today's Sound Advice. He'll play us some music
from some of this year's featured artists.
