Insight: Kings Update / Youth Unemployment / Burning Man Build / "Hedda Gabler"

Kings Update NBA owners are scheduled to meet this Wednesday to vote on whether the Maloofs can sell their stake in the Sacramento Kings to a Seattle ownership group led by Chris Hansen. A lot of people thought the deal was done and set for Sacramento after the relocation committee annouced last week that it would not approve a move of the team from Sacramento to Seattle. But the Seattle group isn't giving up and they sweetened the deal a number of ways over the weekend. We'll get the latest from Capital Public Radio Reporter Bob Moffitt and Seattle Sportscaster Art Thiel.

Youth Unemployment A report released last week by the International Labor Organization says "it's now 'harder for a teenager or young adult to find a job in developed economies than in Sub-Saharan Africa." The report was on the worldwide trend of youth unemployment but comes to the conclusion that "the long-term impact of the youth employment crisis could be felt for decades" around the world, including Sacramento. The news comes as students are getting ready to graduate high school and college in the coming weeks. We'll talk about the issues young people face when finding employment with Derek Thompson, Senior Editor of The Atlantic, and Heather Chamizo, Northern Region Manager for the Employment Development Department.

Burning Man Build If you're not familiar with the Burning Man festival that takes place every Labor Day in the desert outside Reno, Nevada you chould imagine Spain's Las Fallas fiesta of fire set in a "Mad Max" movie. Of course, festival goers at Burning Man - or burners as they're known - are a bit more friendly than anyone you'd find in the Thunderdome. They're also a bit more constructive. The festival culminates by setting afire effigies built by crafty burners around the world. We're speaking with a Sacramento burner who is part of a regional community building one of 23 effigies to get the torch at this year's festival. The community is holding a fundraiser at Dive Bar Monday night to help finance the intricate build project.

"Hedda Gabler" If you're a Sacramento theater fan you probably know area powerhouses Stephanie Gularte and Janis Stevens, and you're probably pretty excited to hear that the two of them are working together on Capital Stage's new adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's "Hedda Gabler." Gularte is performing in the title role and Janis Stevens is directing. We'll speak with Stephanie and actor and Capital Stage co-founder Jonathan Williams ahead of the show's opening on Wednesday. "Hedda Gabler" runs through June 16 and features adult themes and content.
