The California Emergency Management agency has sent six specialists from five California Urban Search and Rescue teams to Oklahoma, to help in response to yesterday's deadly tornado in the town of Moore. One of the six is from the Sacramento Fire City Department. 

The interim emergency service manager for the Yolo County Office of Emergency Services left for Oklahoma City Tuesday morning also as part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's response.

Jordan Scott with the Capital Region Chapter of the American Red Cross says he expects to hear within a couple of days whether to send volunteers to Oklahoma, and he says dozens of people are ready to go.

"Since the first moment of these tornadoes, we've had volunteers calling us and asking if they're going to be needed to deploy." Scott said. "They're ready to go; they want to help."

Scott says given the chapter's history of helping out in disasters such as Superstorm Sandy and the Joplin, Missouri tornado it's likely Sacramento-area volunteers will be called in.

"From driving a vehicle to delivering meals, to comforting people who have just lost their homes, we put them through training so they are well-equipped when they get on the ground to help out." Scott said.
