State of the State: Mayor Johnson on Schwarzenegger's Legacy

Wednesday, January 6, 2010
After the speech, Johnson said the governor’s legacy is someone who stuck to his principles and tried to achieve big, bold goals.

Johnson: “He is perceived right now as being a party of one – meaning the Republicans are not enamored with the governor, and Democrats are certainly not gonna be enamored with him. He’s a moderate Republican and there’s not a huge following for those folks. But I think he’s someone who’s elevated the status of the state of California.”

The mayor says he liked how the governor talked about protecting education from budget cuts.

Johnson also praised Schwarzenegger’s call for measures to grow jobs. But the mayor is worried about the potential for more cuts to state workers, who form the backbone of the capital region’s economy.
