RealtyTrac’s Daren Blomquist says the foreclosure rate remained very high in the Sacramento area last year. There were 47,810 properties that got a foreclosure notice in 2009.

“And that was up about 14% from 2008. The only glimmer of good news I see is that the increase was just 14% from a year ago. In 2008 we were seeing much bigger increases from 2007. So Sacramento may be getting close to hitting a peak in the foreclosure activity.”

The Sacramento area’s foreclosure rate was the 15th highest in the country.

In Stockton it was even worse. The city had the fifth highest foreclosure rate in the country last year…even though foreclosure activity in Stockton actually dropped 8% from 2008.
