General Manager Mike Wiley says the shortfall is a third of R.T.’s operating budget and will require drastic measures.
Wiley: “And that can include layoffs, and that can also include and will likely include fairly significant service reductions that in all likelihood will take effect in June.”
Wiley blames the shortfall on state cuts to public transportation. He also says a lack of sales and state tax revenue is part of the problem, too.
Wiley says funding problems are causing a delay in the light rail extension to Cosumnes River College. The Green Line from downtown to the River district is also a couple of months behind.
