He gave the sobering news to city council members Thursday during a special budget workshop:
“Business as usual is not going to continue work. And we’re going to have to find some creative ways to balance our budget and to resize our organization because we in fact are dealing with a new level of low revenues in order to provide services to this community.”
Vina says the city has several options: including more job cuts… around 450 employees would have to be laid-off; merging some services with the county; and contracting out some city jobs.
Over the past couple-of-years, the city has slashed its budget by more than $100 million…in many cases cutting departments by 50%.
