After several disappointing ski seasons due to drought and the recession, Tahoe resorts are reporting a major turnaround. Ski industry officials saying this will be their best winter ever and expect this weekend to break attendance records. Dave Wilderotter owns four Tahoe Dave’s ski shops. He says all his shops have been swamped this weekend because this year Tahoe has the best conditions in the country.
When we had snow early, about Thanksgiving, it was national news and it just seems like at Tahoe, it’s our year. So Tahoe’s been getting lots of press on lots of snow. And when it comes into spring, people know that we have snow so they’re making reservations for spring now, which is great.
Wilderotter says he has rented out nearly all of his equipment and that he will finally be able to pay off debts from last year. Squaw Valley’s skier visits are up 46-percent over last year and Sugar Bowl’s are up 21-percent.
