Dan Lungren wants to internationalize Megan’s Law. That’s the California law requiring sex offenders to register with the state.
On Capital Public Radio’s INSIGHT Tuesday today, Lungren said his bill would allow the United States to share information with foreign governments about the travel plans of convicted sex offenders.
“Our hope is those countries will also give us information about their sex offenders who are intent on coming to the United States. And we also give the Secretary of State the ability to cancel passports for individuals who have engaged in such conduct in the past.”
Lungren is holding a congressional meeting on human trafficking Wednesday in Rancho Cordova.
The American Civil Liberties Union is critical of Lungren’s bill…saying it’s unfair to people who’ve fully served their sentences.
