At last night’s City Council meeting, Johnson said there are bigger problems for the city to tackle…like a massive budget shortfall.
He also acknowledged a lack of support for placing the issue on the next ballot.
“There was not much appetite from my colleagues on the council to do that within this time frame and we are facing significant budget challenges with a deficit of $35 to $40 million and I think that should take priority going forward.”
Johnson said he’ll work to put the issue on the November ballot.
Just last week, Johnson introduced a scaled-back strong mayor proposal after a judge declared the original version to be a revision of the city charter…and not a reform measure.
