Business Journal: Good News for Homebuyers

Homebuilders were issued 211 buildings permits for single-family homes last month in the Sacramento region. That’s a 40 percent increase from a year ago, and creates a little hope for a recovery.  And multifamily building permits — such as apartments and condos — improved to 129 last month. That’s about five times the figure a year ago and the second-most in the state, behind only Los Angeles. The California Building Industry Association says statewide home-building permits increased 50 percent from a year ago.
Of course, one month does not make a recovery, especially since the current data is compared to record-low activity in 2009.  But construction leaders say passing the governor’s proposed state tax credit for homebuyers and an improving economy would help the industry, which has lost 360,000 jobs during the past four years.
