Yolo County Considers Sales Tax Hike

The revenue…projected to be around $6 million…could help pay for everything from road repairs to public safety. But a tax hike isn’t the only option.
Petrea Marchand is the county’s intergovernmental affairs manager. She told supervisors there are some alternatives.
“A countywide sales tax initiative has received the most attention. But from my personal perspective it’s not necessarily the one that has the most potential. We really haven’t spent enough time with the cities talking about ways that we can raise revenues through grants or jointly funding programs.
Supervisors decided to get more feedback from the county’s four cities: Davis, West Sacramento, Woodland and Winters.
They formed a committee that’ll meet with representatives from each city to determine how revenues from the proposed tax hike would be divided and how the idea should be presented to voters.
