Senator Ashburn made the announcement on K-E-R-N AM Radio, to host Inga Barks. He says he always thought he could keep his personal and private lives separate, but that changed when he was arrested for driving under the influence last week:
“When I crossed the line and broke the law and put people at risk, that’s different and so I do owe people an explanation and the best way to handle that is to be truthful and say to my constituents and to all who care that I am gay, but I don’t think it’s something that has affected, nor will it affect how I do my job.”
