Google is looking for test cities to try out internet service that is one hundred times faster than normal. Targeted cities range in size from 50,000 to a half million.The city's Chief Information Officer Gary Cook says everyone in Modesto could benefit from the cutting edge technology.
“That's a huge draw for businesses to relocate to, for technology companies to locate here. And then provide jobs, provide technology for our citizens.”
Competing for the prize also requires a public relations campaign.
Modesto officials recently posted a banner in the heart of the city that said quote "hey Google pick us." Applications, which consist primarily of technical specifications, are due by March 26th. As many as five cities are going to be selected with the decision from google expected by the end of the year.
