The Folsom Planning Commission has approved a 109-room hotel near Highway 50 and Folsom Boulevard. Now, the Folsom City Council will discuss the project that has generated some controversy with the removal of trees.
Alleghany Properties responded by reducing the number of trees that would be removed on the property, which is adjacent to the existing Larkspur Landing hotel. Alleghany is attempting to market the property to a hotel developer, but it could be a difficult task with the recession and the struggling hospitality industry. But a better economy could create more interest in the land, which is close to a light-rail station, the factory outlet center and Old Town Folsom.
Some community members are still concerned about the removal of trees and limited access to Gold Rush-era digging sites on the property.
