The city of Elk Grove is counting on new state office buildings to help boost its economy. That’s according to Elk Grove Mayor Sophia Scherman who gave her State of the City address this afternoon. The Mayor focused her speech on the economy, stressing the need to keep tax revenue within the city. She says the city hopes to increase revenue by luring State office buildings to town.
Scherman: “34 percent of our labor forces are state workers. Think of the impacts on our economy if we could relocate these jobs closer to home.”
Scherman says the city created an economic development incentive program last December, specifically aimed at bringing state offices to the city.
Elk Grove has been hard-hit by home foreclosures and school budget cuts.
