“You know, you’ve got a fire truck out there, you’ve got at least two maybe sometimes three firemen on scene directing traffic, doing first-responder until ambulances get there. And then any hazardous spills, they’re taking care of that.”
Right now, the Placer County’s fire department gets a portion of property tax revenues to cover costs. But ever since the economic recession, those revenues have been going down.

Holmes says the county could recover an estimated $120,000 a year if the ordinance is approved.
Similar cost-recovery ordinances already exist in the Placer County cities of Roseville and Colfax. And Rocklin city officials are also considering a similar plan.
