The calendar says April…but it’ll look a lot more like December later this weekend…although that’s not totally unheard of…
“It’s not uncommon to have a strong, wintery type system this late into the year.”
That’s Drew Peterson with the National Weather Service office in Sacramento. This low-pressure system is developing off the coast and will bring rain and gusty winds to the valley and snow to the mountains. Peterson says alpine motorists should definitely be prepared for winter driving.
“If you are planning to travel to or from Reno, especially Sunday evening, it’d be very wise to bring chains because there is quite a bit of snow forecasted to fall – anywhere from 6 to 18 inches.”
Peterson says the Sacramento Valley will get about an inch of rain over the weekend. And he says a weaker system will bring a chance of rain for early next week.
