The facility would be one-of-seven around the state that Federal Receiver Clark Kelso is proposing to help improve prison health care.
Douglass Wilhoit is CEO of the Stockton Chamber of Commerce. He says project backers contend the proposed California Health Care Facility will give Stockton an economic boost.
“That’s what they said – they’ll be 3,000 jobs and they’re going to be the saviors of the high unemployment rate. We’ll see how far that goes. The chamber’s going to work very closely to make sure as many local people are hired during the short term during the construction and in the long term in the operation.”
Attorneys representing the chamber, the city of Stockton, San Joaquin County and the state of California have reached a tentative deal to settle a lawsuit over the 1,700 bed facility.
Stockton city leaders and San Joaquin County officials are expected to vote on the settlement Tuesday. Details of the settlement will be released once the settlement is approved.
