And even though unemployment is higher...the total number of jobs in the region actually increased by 34-hundred jobs. How can that be?
“The way the industry employment is calculated is based on where the establishments are and not where the people are.”
Alex Alvarado with the state Employment Development Department says that means many people who live out-of-the region are getting hired here.
Construction led month-over-month job growth…adding 1,100 jobs. Other industries that added workers include agriculture, government and retail.
The only sector that posted month-over-month job loss was information…that includes phone companies and other telecommunication businesses.
