Several ski areas closed for the season yesterday, and just a handful of Sierra resorts are still open for business. Despite a record spring snow pack, many resorts are reporting a sharp decline in visits as temperatures in the Reno-Tahoe area reach the 60s and 70s. But Heavenly Mountain resort is bucking the trend by staying open for one more week, according to spokesman Russ Pecoraro.
Pecoraro: “Everybody stuck by us this year, come out and been real loyal, so we wanted to reward those loyal pass holders with an extra week of skiing and snowboarding. So I think everybody’s going to come out and enjoy this last week.”
Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley will remain open even longer – until late May. AndMammoth Mountain will be the last Sierra resort to close – possibly as late asthe Fourth of July Weekend.
