It took two attempts and plenty of political drama, but both houses of the legislature have now confirmed Maldonado. Lieutenant Governor’s a job that’s sometimes ridiculed for its lack of responsibility, but the Latino Republican says he’ll change that:
“California is going to have a Lt. Governor that works very very hard, who’s never going to work against the sitting Governors, because that’s not productive for the people of California. I’m going to work every day for jobs, jobs and jobs.”
Governor Schwarzenegger is now required to call a special election to fill the Senate seat. And Maldonado will get the advantage of running for Lieutenant Governor as the incumbent. That’s not sitting well with other candidates, such as GOP Senator San Aanested, who joked on the Senate floor that Maldonado shouldn’t be in a hurry to change the drapes.
