The neighborhood association says it doesn’t want the zoo to encroach on Fairytale Town, the golf course or any other part of William Land Park.
But zoo officials say the current site is too small.
Zoo Director Mary Healy told Capital Public Radio’s Insight yesterday they’re just trying to plan for the future.
“We’re only a 14-acre zoo which is pretty small. So we’re always looking at what we can do to maintain better habitats for our animals. And that either means more space or fewer animals. We just want to be wise about what the community may be looking forward to down the road.”
Healy says expanding in Land Park isn’t the only option. Others include moving to sites near Arco Arena or Haggin Oaks Golf Course.
Tonight’s public meeting will be at the Hart Senior Center…near J and 27th Streets in midtown Sacramento…at 6:00.
