Solano County Moves Ahead With Fairgrounds Project

The county is collaborating with developers and the City of Vallejo for a project called Solano-360. It would include housing, shops and restaurants.
The county has already spent just over a million dollars developing the initial vision for the 150-acre site. This week supervisors voted four-to-one to continue moving forward on the project.
Supervisor Barbara Kondylis was the lone dissenter on the board. She said the county shouldn’t be spending that kind of money when they’re cutting back on social service programs.
“This project, going ahead at this time, in this economy, dependent on a loan that will never get paid back unless the development works, I don’t think it’s going to work because the times aren’t right. And I can’t justify in my heart spending this kind of money.”
But supporters say redeveloping the fairgrounds would help stimulate economic growth by creating jobs.
The next step for the project is an environmental impact report.
